9/12/02 -- Bedroom Goes Up In Smoke

My GOD...I don't know where to start. @_@

Friday afternoon...my room burned down. Well, the roof stayed on, but my entire room was gutted, windows broken/carpet & roof insulation gone and is still smoking a little. We had 2 Firetrucks in my court, and I am still a little hysterical over the whole thing. Most of my photo albums, sketchbooks & journals were intact...but I lost my entire 3000+ comic book collection, my cds (400+), videos (50+), my clothes, my action figure collection, and most of the stuff I kept from when I was little. I have collected comics & 80s memorabilia since I was about 4, and it has all either melted or burned.

God, this is so difficult to put into words. I planned on selling my comic collection when I retired (I'd like to end my life owning an antique/trading store), after working in the comics industry and accumulating a life's work. Basically, everything I planned has now gone up in flames, literally. I just cannot believe this happened...X_x

Apparently, a fuse on a vintage floor lamp (switched off) of mine blew out, and smoldered for hours before igniting. Everything in my room is destroyed, except a few of my favorite books and my tarot cards (which, surprisingly enough, did not get damaged- even though thery were found within the worst area of the fire). I got a call at work from my mom, saying "the house is on fire, what have you done?", so I rushed over to the house, looking for smoke in the sky- she hung up after she said it, so I didn't know the extent of the damage until I got there & tried to rescue my cat & some comic boxes-- but the firefighters yelled at me & held me back. I got as far as halfway up the stairs to my room before any of 'em even NOTICED I was in the house. -_-

My parents are SO glad it was just my room, cruel as that may sound. Being that I had my door closed, the fire stopped at my door and nothing in the house was charred...but there is some water damage from the fire hoses. We have our electricity switched off for awhile (PG&E took our meter), so no wrestling programming for me! The least of my worries, I know, but it's just another thing to get upset over. -_-

The good thing is that none of the animals were seriously harmed, all of my stuff I was about to sell on Ebay (stored downstairs) is safe, my trading card (wrestling, comic book & hockey) collection is ok, some of my photos & sketchbooks are ok...and AAA is going to send me on a shopping spree and pay for any food/lodging we need until my room is redone. My friends have all been really great and I have a very large Portuguese family (my dad has 9 brothers & sisters and my mom has 7) that are incredible. I am happy that everyone is safe.

I just can't believe all of this happened! Cliche though that may sound. I have cried so much in the last 24 hrs that my eyes are swollen and my lips & nose sting. My parents are going to Monterey to stay in a hotel tonight (my brother lives over there w/ some friends), but I am going to stay home in our motorhome parked on the curb. I just can't leave it all there, you know? Most of my stuff is dumped in the driveway and I just feel so vulnerable. It so sad for me to see all my comics and childhood toys and sketches burned and stuck together. The people over at AAA wanted me to leave (they said it was too traumatic), but I can't go. I am staying put because I am obstinate! I am an Aries, after all. ^_^

Sorry I wrote all that. You're all great listeners! Thank you!! This has been theraputic. Hehe.

I wanted to say thank you to BYRON, RANDY & NANCY....past Ebay clients & a now few of my super sweet internet buddies. Byron (www.byronshockeyland.com) sent me a ton of wrestling videos (my collection was burned in the fire) & Nancy has a TON of Jericho stuff she is sending me, the darling! Randy is an awesome listener- and into comics, wrestling AND Witchcraft. What a combo! Too bad he lives across the country. X_x
