I am beginning this essay while working at my comic book shop, brainstorming and bulleting my thoughts. When I consider a future working in the Comic Book Industry, several things spring to mind: excitement, fear, fulfillment- pride. Comics caught my attention as a child because of the storylines and artwork they contained. As I got older and became even more addicted to the material, I decided to further my education and obtain a major in English and a minor in Antiques/Collectibles. I chose an English major because I figure I could use it to free-lance, storyboard or edit.

I wanted a career that would still make me laugh in 50 years, and go to bed satisfied with my choice, but I also wanted to choose a career that would enrich my knowledge and love of history and collectibles and help me to change those who only see superheroes and spandex. I didn’t want to be stuck in a job I hated, one that I wouldn’t want to live and breath. There is something so intense and poignant about having something you love so much; something you are bursting your lungs with, wanting to share to the world. I have always liked anything that was rooted in this excitement, possibility, surrealism and color. To me, these are dream-like elements. A dream that someday, hopefully, I will make into a reality.

Written 2/22/02 as a short intro to my English class: The teacher asked us to write about what we hope to accomplish in the future…and that was my response. There is just something about it that I love. *_*
