Comic Books Should Be Banned!
My mother always said, "There is a time and a place for everything," and comic books are no exception to that credo. They are tempting to children; serpents shielded by the coat of "freedom of expression" who need to be exterminated before they do any more damage to the utterly virtuous minds of today's youth. Comics are viewed inaccurately by society at large, are overlooked harbingers of destruction, and are thinly veiled versions of pornography.
Citizens of America have the idea of the comic book as being this cult-like, wholesome type of genre that the Batman TV shows of the 1960s helped to perpetuate. The notion that all comics are considered to be filled with spandex-clad superheroes, a veritable dictionary of onomatopoeias, and harmless wisecracks is more than a fallacy; it is a modern day myth. The truth is that comics contain the harsh and gruesome realities of life. They are not a method of escapism- instead of sending their readers into other galaxies and eras, they plant them firmly in the grim setting of everyday events. This needs to stop! Children must not be exposed to such things.
Exposure of another kind is also evident in comic books- by way of violence. Bit by bloody bit, the crisp pages of a comic tear at youth, symbolically slitting their wrists for the sake of profit and greed. Comic books are filled with the sights of butchered limbs, the sounds of tortured screams, the touch of stainless steel and the smells of decaying flesh. The taste of brutality haunts the reader long after he has read the last page. Comic books therefore incite our children into committing unadulterated acts of violent behavior that they would have never heard about otherwise. Children do not know about such things, and should never ever be exposed to that kind of environment.
Another environment that is off-limits to the youth of today is pornography, and the extensive wealth of reprehensible images that comic books provide. They are are a highly ignored (and relatively unknown) method of pornography. Glossed over by being camouflaged within a sea of happy-go-lucky superhero books, they are virtually impossible to detect at first glance, witch makes them even more of a threat- not unlike wolves in sheep's clothing. Broadcasting the naked form to an audience of children is reprehensible and should be penalized with the maximum extent of punishment allowed by the law. The viewing of such images should never be available to a girl of sixteen, who should be kept virtuous in body and mind until she is wed.
The youth of today are naiveté incarnate- they should not be exposed to the harsh realities of life. It is my firm belief that the comic book is the largest danger facing our children and their cushioned and impressionable minds. Instead of living the crudeness of everyday life, children should instead focus on the wonderful lives they have…I know that my children do.
